The German Collection of Microorganisms and Cell Cultures (DSMZ) is an independent, non-profit organisation with research and service functions of trans-national significance and is supported by the Federal Ministry of Education and research and the Federal States. DSMZ is a member of the Wissenschaftsgemeinschaft Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz (WGL) and the most comprehensive Biological Resource Centre in Europe. With more than 25 000 microorganisms, 1 000 plant viruses and antisera, 700 human and animal cell lines, 800 plant cell cultures and more than 6 700 cultures deposited for the purposes of patenting. DMSZ provides cultures for reference, scientific and industrial exploitation and supports research and development by providing scientific advice and services in identification of organisms, diagnostics protocols and process validation. Since 2004, the DSMZ is certified by DIN EN ISO 9001-2008. The DSMZ Plant Virus collection holds a comprehensive collection of reference virus materials and antisera (ISO/IEC 17025 and ISO Guide 34 accreditation) including Q-specimens. It serves as a key reference laboratory for viruses & viroids in Germany.
DSMZ will participate in WP2 (Inventory), WP3 (Quality), WP4 (Access), WP5 (Info-portal), WP6 (Network of Reference collections) and WP7 (Dissemination)
